![]() NXT Results: January 3, 2018 On a special extended episode of NXT, Drew McIntyre fought Adam Cole in an epic NXT Title clash in San Antonio as Special Guest Referee Shawn Michaels made his presence felt. Plus, NXT’s Year-End Award categories were announced and much more. Special Guest Referee Shawn Michaels’ Sweet Chin Music helped decide McIntyre vs. Cole. Drew McIntyre and Adam Cole’s epic NXT Championship Match from NXT Live in San Antonio was worth the wait. So much has changed within the NXT Universe over the last month and a half since their huge title showdown back on Nov. 17, but thanks to the latest episode of NXT on WWE Network, fans can relive the memorable match refereed by WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels anytime they want. HBK did his best to call the match down the middle in front of his hometown crowd, but his presence seemed to be an ongoing distraction for Cole and his Undisputed ERA partners Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish. Amid then-NXT Champion Drew McIntyre and Cole’s grueling clash, the leader of Undisputed ERA wound end up superkicking HBK straight on the jaw after McIntyre ducked out of the way. The crowd watched in shock as the NXT Champion proceeded to deliver a Claymore Kick to his challenger, but with Michaels laid out, the pinfall attempt was severely delayed. Once The Showstopper finally counted to two, O’Reilly and Fish pulled Michaels from the ring. Cole’s faction-mates then beat down McIntyre before Michaels discarded Fish from the ring and nailed O’Reilly with some Sweet Chin Music. McIntyre then hit Cole with a Future Shock DDT before leveling him with another Claymore move for the exhilarating victory. NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega are taking Johnny Gargano seriously. Despite NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas and his business manager Zelina Vega saying they are taking Johnny Gargano seriously, they certainly seemed confident during their exclusive interview. Almas will defend his NXT Title against Gargano at TakeOver: Philadelphia on Saturday, Jan. 27, on the award-winning WWE Network. It will be their third meeting in the last six months, with Almas winning their previous two encounters. Perhaps because of his past success and a hot streak that catapulted him to the top of NXT, Almas and Vega displayed no shortage of self-assurance while reaffirming the fact that no one can match up to El Idolo. 2018 will be the best year of Johnny Gargano’s life. The last year was a rollercoaster ride for Johnny Gargano. From holding the NXT Tag Team Championship with his best friend Tommaso Ciampa to being brutally attacked by the very same man at TakeOver: Chicago, Gargano experienced every emotion imaginable. Johnny Wrestling looked back on his tumultuous 2017 in an engaging sit-down interview. Despite a lot of heartache in 2017, the No. 1 Contender for the NXT Championship expressed hope for 2018 as he prepares to challenge Andrade “Cien” Almas for NXT’s top prize at TakeOver: Philadelphia on Saturday, Jan. 27. Voting is open for 2017 NXT Year-End Awards. The categories for the 2017 NXT Year-End Awards were exclusively revealed to the NXT Universe, including the brand-new categories of “Future Star of NXT” and “Rivalry of the Year.” Voting is now open, and NXT fans can get official details and the complete list of categories and nominees right here on WWE.com. Who will be named the Male and Female Competitors of the Year in 2017? What will be crowned the Match of the Year? Vote now, and help decide who will go home a winner in the 2017 NXT Year-End Awards. Ember Moon opened up about her journey to becoming NXT Women’s Champion. Skill, honor and heart. These are the three things that drive Ember Moon. The NXT Women’s Champion talked about her voyage from humble beginnings to the top of NXT’s Women’s division in a candid discussion. While NXT fans watched Moon’s journey unfold every Wednesday night on NXT and at TakeOver events throughout the year, NXT’s War Goddess gave the NXT Universe a never-before-seen look into her upbringing and what drove her to become an NXT Superstar. If you weren’t a fan of Moon’s before, it’s hard not to root for her after watching the introspective look at her career. It’s also hard to imagine any Superstar being able to take the NXT Women’s Title from her after she had to fight and claw her way to the top. Only time will tell if there is a challenger who can dethrone Moon as the NXT Women’s Champion. |

![]() NXT Results: January 10, 2018 NXT Tag Team Champions Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly took SAnitY out of the running before their scheduled title defense against the chaos-craving crew, but that didn’t mean the coast was clear for Undisputed ERA. Shayna Baszler def. Dakota Kai via referee stoppage. ATLANTA — It didn’t take long for Mae Young Classic finalist Shayna Baszler to send a terrifying message to the rest of the NXT Women’s division, including its popular titleholder, Ember Moon. Coming off a pair of disturbing incidents at the WWE Performance Center where she took liberties with her fellow NXT recruits, The Queen of Spades made her in-ring debut against New Zealand’s Dakota Kai. The former UFC fighter overwhelmed the kick-loving Kiwi, working over her left arm and shoulder and twisting her limb in all sorts of unhealthy ways. After she viciously stomped the arm, causing it to bend in gruesome fashion, the referee ruled that Kai could not continue and declared Baszler the victor. Unsatisfied with the damage already done, Baszler attacked Kai again as she was being treated by NXT’s medical team and locked in the Kirifuda Clutch before Moon rushed into the ring to stop the brazen newcomer. Baszler backed off and left the ring with no further trouble, though her menacing smile suggested her campaign of intimidation is just getting started. Kassius Ohno def. Raul Mendoza. Despite a lackluster win-loss record, Raul Mendoza has shown time again that he can hang with some of NXT’s very best, and he got another opportunity tonight when he faced one of the brand’s most respected Superstars, Kassius Ohno. Cognizant of his size disadvantage, Mendoza used his speed, agility and innovative lucha libre moves to get Ohno off his feet. The deceptively fast Knockout Artist, however, eventually caught Mendoza and stopped his flurry with a big boot to the face followed by the High-Tension Elbow Strike to pick up the win. Lars Sullivan def. Lio Rush. #NXTAwardFutureStar nominee Lio Rush tried mightily to escape the reach of Lars Sullivan and frustrate the leviathan with his quick-hitting offense. It worked, too … at first. Despite the sound strategy, The Man of the Hour’s luck ran out when NXT’s one-man wrecking ball finally got hold of Rush and began tossing him around like a ragdoll. Sullivan thrashed Rush with an avalanche and crossface strikes before finishing him with the Freak Accident for the decisive win. Afterward, Sullivan took the microphone and made clear his desire to destroy Killian Dain, the SAnitY big man who put Sullivan through a table during Dec. 27’s wild Fatal 4-Way No. 1 Contender’s Match. Perhaps seeking to put an exclamation point on his dominant performance and send warning to The Beast of Belfast, Sullivan then returned his focus to Rush, demolishing the young Superstar with an organ-jarring Freak Accident off the second rope for good measure. Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly def. Aleister Black & Roderick Strong to retain the NXT Tag Team Titles. NXT Tag Team Champions Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly were scheduled to defend their titles against former titleholders SAnitY, but WWE cameras caught Undisputed ERA laying out Dain, Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe in the locker room area prior to the bout. The attack rendered SAnitY unable to compete, and O’Reilly & Fish, along with Adam Cole, took it upon themselves to brag about their actions in the middle of the ring. An enraged Nikki Cross tried to claw her way toward the faction, but NXT officials prevented the psychotic Scot from doing so. Infuriated by Undisputed ERA’s actions, NXT General Manager William Regal stated that O’Reilly & Fish would still defend the championships, paving the way for Roderick Strong and Aleister Black — two of the ERA's toughest rivals — to enter the scene and forge a makeshift team. With Regal's blessing, a new but equally thrilling NXT Tag Team Title Match was made official on the spot. The Dutch destroyer took the fight to O’Reilly at the start, but Fish interjected behind the ref’s back, turning the tide in the champions’ favor. Undisputed ERA utilized quick tags to methodically work over Black until the gifted striker broke free and tagged in Strong, setting off a rapid series of moves by The Messiah of the Backbreaker. As Strong & Black continued mounting a comeback, Cole made his presence felt, taking a cheap shot at Black. The Panama City Playboy hightailed it up the bleachers in Center Stage, and Black gave chase, leaving Strong to fend for himself against Fish & O’Reilly. Moments later, the champions wiped out Strong with Total Elimination to claim victory. Black raced into the ring but was overpowered by Undisputed ERA’s numbers advantage. Cole then added insult to injury, sending Black crashing onto a steel chair. Though Cole was all smiles after Undisputed ERA’s beatdown on Black, his demeanor changed when Regal reappeared and revealed that Cole will meet Black in an Extreme Rules Match at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia on Saturday, Jan. 27. What kind of extreme retribution could await Cole in The City of Brotherly Love? |

![]() NXT Preview: January 24, 2018 On the final episode of NXT before this Saturday’s TakeOver: Philadelphia, Johnny Gargano puts his coveted NXT Title opportunity against Andrade “Cien” Almas on the line in a high-stakes showdown with The Velveteen Dream. Will Velveteen Dream turn into Johnny Gargano’s worst nightmare? Johnny Gargano is betting on himself. He made that clear last week when he gave a fiery speech in front of the NXT Universe, announcing that he will put his NXT Title opportunity against Andrade “Cien” Almas at TakeOver: Philadelphia on the line in a match with Velveteen Dream. Johnny Wrestling is tired of the doubters who continue be skeptical of his singles career, even after he defeated several of NXT’s top competitors to earn his No. 1 contender spot. In addition to being dismissed by the NXT Champion and his outspoken business manager Zelina Vega, Gargano was told point-blank by Velveteen Dream during a tense backstage encounter that he believes Gargano got lucky. Gargano only got into the No. 1 Contender’s tournament due to an injury to Dream, and Dream was quick to remind Gargano of that fact. While doing so, Dream heavily disparaged another NXT Superstar, Kassius Ohno (the man Gargano beat in the tournament). Now Gargano and Dream will battle it out tonight on NXT to see who truly is the Superstar meant to challenge for the NXT Championship. Will Gargano regret voluntarily putting his NXT Title Match on the line, or will Johnny Wrestling once again prove his doubters wrong and continue his underdog story this Saturday at TakeOver: Philadelphia? Don’t miss this huge showdown between Johnny Gargano and Velveteen Dream tonight at 8/7 C on the award-winning WWE Network. No Way Jose brings the fiesta back to NXT. No Way Jose is one of NXT’s most dangerous, yet entertaining Superstars on the roster. The NXT veteran has laid out his fair share of opponents with his knockout strikes while also dancing his way throughout the NXT Universe. The fun-loving Superstar hasn’t been seen in NXT in some time, but that all changes tonight when he goes head-to-head with up-and-coming Superstar Cezar Bononi. Jose will have his hands full with the towering Bononi, who has athleticism for days. Can Jose fight his way back into the winning corner in his return to NXT, or will Bononi spoil Jose’s return with his own statement-making victory? Will there be fireworks before TakeOver: Philadelphia? There are already four huge matches scheduled for this Saturday’s NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia, so there is plenty of opportunity for some last-minute fireworks between rivals. With tonight’s episode of NXT including a high-stakes showdown between Johnny Gargano and Velveteen Dream to see who will challenge for the NXT Championship this Saturday, you can bet NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega will be watching closely. There are also title matches pitting NXT Tag Team Champions Undisputed ERA vs. The Authors of Pain and NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon vs. Shayna Baszler on the card for TakeOver: Philadelphia. Will either of these titleholders or challengers look to make a momentum-changing strike before converging on the City of Brotherly Love? And let’s not forget the highly intense Extreme Rules Match between Aleister Black and Undisputed ERA leader Adam Cole, also slated for TakeOver. Be sure to tune in to NXT tonight at 8/7 C on WWE Network to see what action goes down before TakeOver’s epic Philly debut this Saturday! |
