Facts & Stats

Royal Rumble Updates
- John Cena tied Ric Flair's record for 16 World Championships by defeating AJ Styles. Cena, to his landmark record, defeated John Bradshaw Layfield, Edge (three times, once for the WHC), Chris Jericho (WHC only), Randy Orton (twice), Sheamus, Batista, The Miz, Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio (twice, once for the WHC), The Rock, during a vacancy and the aforementioned AJ Styles.

- In the process, Cena also extended his lead on most WWE Championship reigns to 13 - four ahead of the nearest challenger Triple H, on 9.

- Randy Orton became the 7th different man to win the Rumble more than once. His previous victory came in 2009.

- Orton entered at #23, which now holds the joint-record for most successful entry number alongside 27 (which hasn't won since Austin's last victory in 2001).

- He's also the third member of Evolution to have won the Rumble twice, behind Batista (2005/2014) and Triple H (2002/2016). Ric Flair, who won in 1992, is the only one not to achieve this feat.

- Speaking of Evolution: Orton, Batista and Triple H are the only men to have eliminated Roman Reigns from a Royal Rumble match.

- Roman Reigns, in his 4th Royal Rumble match, once again made the final three participants. No one has ever achieved this before.

- Reigns also became the fourth man to have been the final elimination in two Royal Rumble matches: Big Show, John Cena and Triple H are the other three. Of those, Big Show is the only one who hasn't also won a Rumble match.

- Chris Jericho overtook Triple H for longest cumulative time spent in a Royal Rumble match. He only needed 4 minutes more than The Game, but instead spent over an hour in the match.

- Sami Zayn lasted 46:55 - in the process breaking a 21-year record held by Bob Holly for the longest time spent in a Rumble match without eliminating a single opponent (Holly managed 39:35 in 1996).

- Baron Corbin's WWE PPV winning streak came to an end. However, he's yet to be pinned or made to submit on PPV.

- Jack Gallagher, James Ellsworth (in a wrestling capacity) and Tye Dillinger all made their WWE PPV debuts.

Elimination Chamber Updates
- Bray Wyatt's WWE Championship win marked his first singles title success.

- This PPV marked the first time three women's matches took place on a single PPV.

- Naomi's Women's Championship win was the first title success of her career.

WWE Fastlane Updates
- Charlotte Flair's PPV undefeated streak ended at this event.

- This was Samoa Joe's PPV debut.

- Braun Strowman suffered his first pinfall loss in his WWE career at this event.

WrestleMania 33 Updates
- Roman Reigns gave Undertaker only his 2nd loss at WrestleMania, in 25 appearances.

- John Cena took his 10th win at WrestleMania, making him only the second man to achieve this feat (behind Undertaker, who achieved it in 2002).

- Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship win is the first title Lesnar has won that wasn't the WWE Title.

- Randy Orton winning the WWE Championship meant, for the first time ever, the first three PPVs of a year all saw new champions.

- Orton's title win also meant he ties with Triple H for second most WWE Championships of all time, with 9. Only Cena has more, with 13.

- This was Maryse's first match since July 2011.

- Triple H's loss to Seth Rollins was his 12th, equal to Big Show's (not including his pre-show appearances).

- Matt & Jeff Hardy made their returns to WWE for the first time since 2010/2009 respectively.

- It also marked Jeff Hardy's first win at WrestleMania.

- Mojo Rawley's ATGMBR victory kept up an unusual record for him, where he's been undefeated in pre-show matches (taking him to 5-0).

Payback Updates
- Alexa Bliss won the Raw Women's Championship, making her the first woman to hold both main show's titles.

- Austin Aries made his WWE PPV debut.

- With some matches announced before the Superstar Shake-Up took place, two matches were interpromotional on a Raw-exclusive PPV.

Backlash Updates
- Jinder Mahal became the 50th different WWE Champion.

- Mahal also became the ninth different holder of the WWE Championship in-a-row, equaling a record set back in 2001/2.

- Phenomenally, this also marked Mahal's first PPV win in WWE as well.

- Shinsuke Nakamura made not only his PPV debut but also his main roster debut at this event.

- On the Pre-Show, Tye Dillinger scored his first ever Network Special win, defeating Aiden English.

Extreme Rules Updates
- The Steel Cage Tag Team Championship Match was the fourth of its kind in WWE - and for the third time, it featured the Hardy Boyz.

- Noam Dar made his PPV debut.

- This was Finn Balor's first PPV appearance since his one and only previous match, at last year's SummerSlam.

Money in the Bank Updates
- This PPV featured the first ever Women's Money in the Bank match.

- Jinder Mahal became the first person holding the WWE Championship to win a PPV match this year.

- This was Lana's first televised singles match.

- Mojo Rawley continued his undefeated streak in Pre-Show matches, taking his winning record to 6-0.

Great Balls of Fire Updates
- This was the first PPV under the GBoF name.

- This was Brock Lesnar's first match not on one of the Big Four PPVs since Fastlane last year.

- This was Curt Hawkins' first PPV match (not including pre-show appearances) since Money in the Bank 2012.

- In relation to Hawkins, he and Heath Slater were also involved in the first ever PPV match to not have a televised finish.

Battleground Updates
- For only the third time ever, a Punjabi Prison match took place.

- The Great Khali made his first appearance in WWE since losing to Rusev on the 31st October 2014 episode of SmackDown.

- While The New Day won their third Tag Team Championship, this marked the first time Xavier Woods competed - and scored the winning pinfall - in the match.

- In the process, it made them the first team to win both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

- Since her PPV winning streak was finally ended by Bayley earlier in the year, Charlotte Flair has now lost 5 consecutive PPV matches.

- Mike Kanellis made his WWE PPV debut in a wrestling capacity.

SummerSlam Updates
- For the first time since her WWE debut, Charlotte Flair didn't appear on a PPV she was eligible to be part of; ending a run of 24 consecutive appearances in-a-row.

- Dean Ambrose became the 8th New Grand Slam Champion in WWE history after winning the Raw Tag Team Championships with Seth Rollins.

- It also marked Dean Ambrose's first win on PPV this year (his WrestleMania match was on the pre-show).

- Sasha Banks joined Charlotte Flair on a record-equaling fourth Raw Women's Championship reign.

- Natalya's victory over Naomi gave the Canadian only her second title win in WWE, her previous being a run as Divas Champion when she won the title at Survivor Series 2010 - almost seven years ago.

- This marked Shinsuke Nakamura's first pinfall loss in WWE and only his fourth overall since joining the company (with his three losses in NXT).

- Randy Orton vs. Rusev was just 8 seconds long; but it's still not the shortest match in SummerSlam history. Christian retained his ECW Championship against William Regal in 2009 in just 7 seconds.

- Since defeating Undertaker at WrestleMania, Roman Reigns has failed to win on PPV.

- John Cena appeared in the opening match of a PPV for the first time since No Mercy last year.

No Mercy Updates
- This was Emma's first PPV appearance (not including pre-shows) since the 2014 Survivor Series, almost three years prior.

- Enzo Amore won his first ever championship in WWE - and in his professional career - by becoming Cruiserweight Champion.

- Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman was the shortest match on the actual PPV, clocking in some 40 seconds behind the next shortest (Women's Fatal 5 Way).

Hell In A Cell Updates
- For the first time ever, Tag Team Championships were defended inside Hell in a Cell.

- The other Hell in a Cell match between Shane McMahon & Kevin Owens was the first to be contested under Falls Count Anywhere rules.

- Baron Corbin won his first championship in WWE - and his professional career - by winning the United States Championship.

- This was Bobby Roode's first WWE PPV appearance.

- This was Tye Dillinger's first WWE PPV appearance as a main roster superstar.

- Albeit won by disqualification, this was Charlotte Flair's first PPV win since the Royal Rumble in January.

- Mojo Rawley's undefeated streak on pre-show matches was ended when, as part of the Hype Bros, he lost to Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin.

WWE TLC Updates
- This was Kurt Angle's first WWE match in over 11 years, his last match being a no contest with Sabu on WWE ECW in August 2006.

- Three superstars made their WWE PPV debuts at this event: Asuka, Elias and Cedric Alexander.

- Dean Ambrose kept up a rather unique record in being the only person to have competed in every TLC match which had to be won by pinfall or submission, rather than climbing for an item hanging above the ring.

- This was Emma's final PPV appearance before her release.

Survivor Series Updates
- This was the first WWE PPV event that didn't feature a single Championship match on the main card since ECW One Night Stand in 2005.

- For the first time in his WWE career, Kevin Owens didn't feature on a PPV/NXT Network Special he was eligible for - a run of 29 consecutive PPVs (33 w/ NXT) from his debut - the longest run of any superstar in history.

- The Shield teamed together as a trio for the first time on PPV since Battleground 2014.

- Randy Orton, despite being a 15 year veteran at this point, was the youngest member of the SmackDown Men's Team at age 37. By comparison Braun Strowman was Raw's youngest at 34.

- Raw's only win from the Champions vs. Champions matches was Lesnar over AJ Styles - the remaining three all went SmackDown's way.

- This was Alexa Bliss' last televised match of 2017, and despite having no known injury, it was also her only televised match of the last 2 months of the year.

Clash of Champions Update
- Despite the theme of the night being all titles on the brand are defended, the same thing had already happened at the previous SmackDown PPV event, Hell in a Cell.

- This marked Shelton Benjamin's first WWE PPV appearance since WrestleMania XXVI in 2010.

- Dolph Ziggler winning the United States Championship was his only PPV win of 2017.

- It was the first WWE PPV appearances, albeit not in a wrestling capacity, for Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan.

Misc. Updates
- Tyler Bate became the 2nd youngest person to win any WWE Title when he became United Kingdom Champion in January. Only Rene Dupree, who won the World Tag Team Titles at Bad Blood in 2003, has won a championship at a younger age.

- For the first time ever, all three of NXT's Championships (NXT, Women's and Tag Titles) were held by superstars who were undefeated at the same time (at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio). This would end at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III when Authors of Pain and Bobby Roode both lost their respective championships.

- Matt & Jeff's Tag Team Title run started, and ended, on the exact same dates as their previous title run in WWE ten years prior.

- Tye Dillinger holds a rather unfortunate streak from his time in NXT - he had a 100% losing record at TakeOver events.

- Naomi went ten weeks without a televised win: from her last at the SD Live after Mania (retaining against Alexa Bliss) until the SD Live before Money in the Bank (beating Tamina).

- Baron Corbin became only the third man to fail to successfully cash in his Money in the Bank contract, and was the quickest to ever lose it.

- SAnitY's NXT Tag Team Championship victory made Alexander Wolfe the first German-born superstar to win a championship in WWE.

- AJ Styles became the first man to win the WWE Championship outside of North America when he beat Jinder Mahal for the title in Manchester, England.

- That win also marked just the third time the WWE Championship was won on SmackDown (Vince McMahon in 1999 & Brock Lesnar in 2003 the other times).

- Sarah Logan was called up to the main roster despite having never won a single televised match. She still ends 2017 having yet to score her own pinfall/submission victory on TV.

- Jason Jordan is the first person to win the NXT, Raw and SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships.

- He's also the third member of Evolution to have won the Rumble twice, behind Batista (2005/2014) and Triple H (2002/2016). Ric Flair, who won in 1992, is the only one not to achieve this feat.

- Roman Reigns, in his 4th Royal Rumble match, once again made the final three participants. No one has ever achieved this before.

Roman is so strong.

- Sami Zayn lasted 46:55 - in the process breaking a 21-year record held by Bob Holly for the longest time spent in a Rumble match without eliminating a single opponent (Holly managed 39:35 in 1996).

And then there's Sami on the complete opposite side of the strong spectrum. :P

Welp. Nice big update to do the remainder of the year. Seth Rollins gets MVP of the year at 6-2 (although an argument can also be made for Brock Lesnar at 5-1, given his one loss was the Rumble elimination), and although many Rusev Days have been enjoyed, it most certainly was not a Rusev year - having six losses and not a single victory to his name. Phenomenal loss tally for AJ Styles though - despite starting and ending 2017 as WWE Champion, he was on the losing side eight times this year.

Sami is earning a Hall of Fame career without doing anything or winning a single title.

That has got to be pure coincidence as there's no way anyone in the company could plan that out.
