Del Rio's interview with WrestleTalk TV: Fired for a "******* ******" making a racist joke about Mexicans, Alberto said he "stood up for himself" and told the social media guy to apologise for his comments. The bloke just smiled at Del Rio, so Alberto slapped him. The next day, he was told he was suspended for 3 weeks with no pay - but then the social media guy threatened to sue the WWE for the incident, so Del Rio was fired. He initially didn't say anything, because in the United States "you can get sued for whatever" (citing a case about someone suing Jesus) - once he had a "really good lawyer" he asked what/what not to say in front of a camera (this was Del Rio's first interview in front of a camera regarding the incident) - he was told about the fact there were many witnesses to the incident who could back his claims up if necessary. Del Rio said he struggled for 2 months not to say anything, because of his fear of "these guys" (the WWE) suing him and ruining his family's lives. He said of the WWE: "I don't need them, they don't need me [...] If you let me go I'm gone for good [...] I'm not one of your kids from NXT, if you don't pay me I'm not gonna be here" WWE was offered the opportunity to respond to the comments made, but as of yet have not responded to the offer. |
