We all know who "The One" is going to be, but I looked at this from the point of view of people WWE would actually get behind as the future. Kevin Steen got fat and Vince never was much of a chubby chaser, Sami Zayn is doomed after busting up his shoulder, Finn Balor may be good, but he's too small, Neville is basically RVD without the ponytail and cannabis, and Ziggler has been a lost cause for a decade now. I voted Rusev because this guy left Bulgaria when he was 20 years old to come to the US to become a professional wrestler. He didn't do it to be an underwear model, he didn't do it to become a Hollywood star, no he left his home to fucking wrestle. So, he gets signed by WWE in late 2010 to developmental, but didn't start working matches until mid 2011. Then, he blew his knee out and was out injured until 2012 when six months later, he fractured his neck. Again, he comes back from injury and spends 7 months in NXT until he debuts at last year's Royal Rumble. In total, Rusev spent maybe 18 months in actual development and the rest healing from injuries. He didn't give up, he didn't whine, he just did it and got better along the way unlike a lot of guys that go through WWE's system. His debut last year where, while he didn't impress me much at first, by year's end he really showed that he's got something special and obviously impressed WWE enough that they gave him a segment with The Rock. And through that whole time, he was still learning to speak English. Rusev has this sky is the limit potential. He continually improves not just in his feuds, ring work, and promos, but in figuring out how to control the pace and improve the quality of a match. I think he's destined for more than just the mid card as he's shown the dedication and intelligence it takes to be a top guy, but he's also got the muscle monster look that shallow promoters like Vince McMahon and company latch on to. Now what Rusev has to do to stick around is figure out how to politic his way into better feuds and not rely on what Creative gives him. If I could give him one suggestion, it would be he needs to convince the powers that be to give him the MitB win this year and to never ever work another match with John Cena again. |

Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald recently caught up with former WWE Wrestlers Ivory and Molly Holly to talk about what they have been doing since parting ways with the company. Below are some highlights from the interview: Ivory on what she has been doing since leaving WWE: ''I work with dogs and cats all day long. I work by myself, for myself. I'm around 15 or 20 dogs every day of my life. It's just like wrestling.'' Ivory on the current state of women's wrestling in WWE: ''I was fortunate enough to watch Bayley at NXT, when they had their matches. Those girls were on fire. It's all around us. Great ladies' wrestling is all around us. So it has not disappeared by any means.'' Molly Holly on what she has been doing since leaving WWE: ''I work at Teen Challenge, which is a worldwide organization that helps people overcome alcohol and drug addiction.'' Molly Holly on catching up with Natalya and watching Madusa go into the WWE Hall Of Fame: ''I talked to Nattie [Natalya] a little bit, and I complimented her inducting Madusa. It's about time. She really paved the way for me. To be able to be there, and she did such an awesome job with her speech. I thought it was great.'' |
