On July 12th, ECW Original Tommy Dreamer took his final Chokeslam during a Lone Star Championship Wrestling match with Lance Hoyt. Dreamer wrote the following a few days after taking the move, which you can watch above, to explain why he will never take another one: There comes a time in every persons life they say uggh im getting old. We can fight it as much as possible but it happens. It is harder to come to terms with many athletes that they are losing a step. Ironically I watched a story about Earl Campbell the iconic running back for the Houston Oilers whose punishing style made him famous. He has a myriad of back issues walks w/a walker from when the documentary was made. He said after he got traded, he had the toughest call to make & he called his wife & said im losing a step. Its time to retire. Well on Sunday in Houston Texas. I took my last ever chokeslam. This move was invented by Paul Heyman. He visualized it & gave it to a wrestler named 911. Well I took my share of them from him as well as from Brian Lee which made me famous for being crazy & extreme. I actually enjoyed taking them. Ive taken them on chairs, concrete, a cinderblock, outside on someones lawn. Into a trash can, into a dumpster, from the top of the ECW Arena, the top of steel cages, you name it ive taken them. Well I took this one on Sunday & I felt something weird. PAIN. & heard crunch. Wasnt Lance Hoyts fault he placed me perfect. Im just 44 & after a 20min hardcore match my chokeslam bump card has expired. Going into my own companies largest show im hurt. Im pissed at myself because when im performing in ring im still 25 years old, but my body reminded me im 44 w/a broken neck & back. So thank you Chokeslam we had a great relationship. Ive taken them from 911,Brian Lee, The Undertaker, Kane, Test, Big Show and a few I probably forgot. I will heal, I will fight thru the pain but knowing my wrestling career is on the tail end of ending is the hardest part. No regrets, I got a few good matches left in me. Thanks for reading |

Carlton Cinema in Toronto, Ontario, Canada held a special showing of the John Carpenter film “They Live,” which was arguably “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s most successful and critically acclaimed movie role, this past Saturday, August 8, 2015. All of the proceeds of the screening were to benefit the “Stand For The Silent” charity, an anti-bullying campaign that Piper served as spokesperson for. Below, courtesy of Matthew Saliba and ProWrestling.net, are photos of the special “They Live with Roddy Piper” themed movie theater: Spoiler: click to toggle Source: http://www.sescoops.com/photos-movie-theater-redecorates-for-special-roddy-piper-they-live-charity-day/1/ |

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has been keeping relatively quiet since the initial fallout of his racism controversy last month, mostly just re-tweeting supportive messages from fans. Hogan, who is celebrating his 62nd birthday today, has made no secret about wanting to get back in the ring at WrestleMania next year, teasing his return in almost every interview he’s done this year. CM Punk recently spoke with Rolling Stone, where he explained why the MMA training he has been doing in preparation for his upcoming UFC debut is becoming frustrating. “I’m always a little bit frustrated, because it’s just repetition to get muscle memory down so I’m not making the same mistakes,” said Punk. “I think it’s a lot harder than people realize. You’re re-learning this entirely new skillset and trying to condition your body to do things it wouldn’t normally do. It’s challenging and it’s fun.” The former WWE Superstar who referred to himself as “The Best in the World” also spoke about another frustrating topic — dealing with behind-the-scenes politics at his former place of employment, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). “For the longest time [in] what I did, the competition wasn’t that clean-cut. It didn’t matter if you were the best. There’s slimy backstage politics, there’s always somebody trying to undercut you. To me, there’s something romantic about just you and another guy locked inside a cage and the better man wins. In that time and space, nothing else matters. I definitely think it can be fucking scary, but I like embracing the things that scare me.” Finally, Punk explained why having his wife — former WWE Diva AJ Lee (April-Jeanette Mendez-Brooks) — has made his transition from one career to another so easy. “That’s the whole reason I asked her to marry me,” said Punk. “We were friends on the road for so long and she knew everything about me. I would tell her every stupid thing I ever did, and it’s come back to bite me in the ass in certain respects, but there’s no secrets, and I’d have it no other way.” Source: http://www.mmanews.com/cm-punk-says-training-for-his-ufc-debut-is-becoming-frustrating/ |

WWE has issued a response to an article in BBC asking why wrestlers die so young. The article cited research from University of Eastern Michigan, which looked at a sample size of 557 former pro wrestlers. Of the 62 wrestlers in the group who died between 1985 and 2011, 49 died before the age of 50. 24 of those 49 died before the age of 40 and 2 of them died before the age of 30. The study also found that mortality rates for wrestlers aged between 45 and 54 were 2.9 times greater than the rate for men in the wider United States population. From that group, cardiovascular disease was the most common cause of death. A WWE spokesperson issued this response: “Unfortunately, some past performers were part of a generation of wrestlers who made unhealthy and poor personal lifestyle choices, which in some cases continued beyond their years in the ring. Today’s athletes take great pride and personal responsibility for their overall health and well-being. Notwithstanding, WWE talent are subject to random drug testing and expected to live healthy lifestyles, reinforced through our Talent Wellness Program, which was instituted in 2006.” Source: http://www.sescoops.com/wwe-issues-statement-regarding-bbc-article-about-wrestlers-dying-young/ |
