Kevin Owens recently spoke with Mike Jones of DC101 to promote WWE’s live event in Washington, DC on Sunday. Owens said he’s looking forward to watching Shane McMahon & The Undertaker’s Hell In A Cell match at WrestleMania 32, and that he can’t imagine what type of “insane” things Shane has planned. “Shane McMahon has done some really insane things when he wasn’t in as high profile a match as this one, so I can’t imagine what he’ll be ready to do or go through at Wrestlemania, but you’re right about Wrestlemania being synonymous with The Undertaker,” Owens said. “You’ve got two guys that will be ready to leave it all in that cell.” Owens was also asked about recently-retired WWE star Daniel Bryan. According to NoDQ.com, who was citing this from another source, this week's Raw, the second to last one before Wrestlemania rating was down almost half a million viewers from the second to last Raw before Mania last year. So in the course of a year, it's easy to say WWE has lost about 500,000 viewers. Back in the fall, the tape delayed UK Raw was down 900,000 viewers when compared with another tape delayed UK Raw a year before. All this is evidence that WWE's audience is disappearing. For all that Vince says to the investors in conference calls about how the ratings don't matter is BS. If the ratings didn't matter, why would they be putting Owens and Styles on Raw and not save it for a ppv on the Network? The ratings are down significantly and it's during Mania season. WWE's been devastated with injuries and that's a key reason the ratings are down, but it's a canary in the coal mine (no pun intended) because what's going to happen when Cena, Orton, and Lesnar retire and part time guys like Taker and Triple H have already been long gone? WWE's inability to embrace and build new stars that appeal to the fans, that the fans want to see is a disaster waiting to happen. |
