So in the brief period that I still have the Network before I cancel it (I seriously can't even think of a good reason to keep it around, I've not used the thing prior to tonight since Mania, nor have I had any real desire to do so), I decided to go back and check out that match between Owens and Cena from Elimination Chamber. And, oh boy, Match of the Year contender? Yeah, um, no, not in any way shape or form fucking imaginable. That match fucking sucked.

15 minutes of those two just exchanging finishers and kicking out of them. That's it. That's the whole fucking match. And by the time we get to the end, I was so numb by the ridiculousness of it all that it felt anticlimactic that Cena actually stayed down after that last powerbomb. I mean, why the hell not just kick out of that, too? What was so different about that one compared to all the other bullshit those two kicked out of throughout that match? And from what I've heard about their subsequent matches, they only get even more and more ridiculous in this regard. Yeah, sorry, but no thanks, I think I'll skip on those two.

That's not good wrestling, that's lazy fucking horseshit. Here's an idea, how about you go out there and actually wrestle a match, build up to a fucking finisher, and let it naturally fucking finish. Don't just have a match consisting of just a bunch of finishers and nothing more, because at that point, by the time we get to the actual finish, there's nothing significant about it that makes it feel like it should actually end the match.

God damn, I know a lot of you guys liked that match, but holy shit that match was fucking garbage... :|

IMO, NXT is the only reason to have the Network at this point. While I've basically had the Network going back to August, I seldom watch any of the old ppv's or any of the original content. I did see the first episode of Edge and Christian's show and that was pretty decent for what is basically WWE's version of Cheap Seats, but I haven't seen any other episodes and feel okay about that.

About the only WWE shows that I watched that were shows, not matches on Raw, SD, etc. was Tough Enough (except the latest season that everyone here said sucked) and WWF Confidential with Mean Gene. Confidential was awesome.

So I'm simulating a universe mode in 2K16 and had a fatal 4 way w Cena, Reigns, Joe and Cesaro

Reigns pinned Joe to win... Even the video games of WWE are putting him over at all costs, hahahahah

No really, the more I think about that match, the more it pisses me off. From the very get-go, Jerry Lawler talks up how Owens isn't one to just do flashy moves for the sake of them, and that's something we've come to see from him since. He'll typically tease such moves, but then decide against it in favor of something far simpler yet just as effective, garnering heel heat in the process. However, in this match, that mindset is completely out the window, as they jump straight into trying to one-up each other with flashier and flashier techniques, leaving Lawler to even have to backtrack and say explicitly mention how this isn't Owen's USUAL forte, yet here he is doing precisely that anyways.

The thing is, though, they didn't NEED to do this. Both these guys are SO MUCH better than they showed themselves to be in this match, and yet they made the active decision to forgo telling a story in the ring in favor of putting on a showcase of "cool looking moves".

I mentioned in the NXT Takedown thread how indy style matches can be really good when done right, as was the case with Zayn vs Nakamura. However, a lot of the times indy matches get it oh so wrong, and this match was more in line with how that can be the case, what with them placing more focus on the moves being performed as opposed to telling a compelling story and providing a reason for utilizing such maneuvers. Basically, a mindless spotfest. Hell, Owens isn't even the type to break out anything fancy unless it's a desperate situation, yet this match realistically never got to that point, as they started with finishers and bullshit right off the bat, leaving no room for such a situation to arise naturally and be built to.

I dunno, perhaps if that was my introduction to Owens it woulda been more impressive, but seeing the kind of wrestler he actually is and going back to that match as his WWE debut, I gotta say that that match was a MAJOR disappointment, and lacked ALL of the storytelling, both in terms of in ring psychology and as far as playing the crowd is concerned, that he's come to be known for, and Cena should know better than to put on such slop as well (though that didn't stop him from having a similarly shitty match with Rocky at Mania. Twice. ).

I like to think that Becky Lynch's use of the word "lass" isn't her censoring the word "ass", but rather, that's just how she says it. Like, if she were at the bar getting belligerently drunk and swearing like a sailor, she might try and start some shit by proclaiming, "You son of a bitch, I'll kick your fucking lass!" :cmpunk:

Then I'd ask her if "larse" is Gaelic for the gonads and if she says no, I'll pimp on over to her to initiate courtship and Brock Lesnar can breathe a sigh of relief.

Just as long as it's not taken too far by culminating in some kind of ridiculous ''Kiss Me Larse'' gimmick match.

I honestly never want to see anything like that ever again.

Shawn Michaels was a guest on Vince Russo’s podcast this week and didn’t hold anything back on his opinion of the current WWE product. When asked if he misses wrestling for WWE, he responded:

“Everybody asks me, ‘Do you miss it?’ No, I don’t miss it because what’s on TV now isn’t what I used to do. So it’s easy not to miss.”

It’s an interesting quote that’s hard to disagree with. To be fair, every generation says that things were better when they were growing up. It is the old “back in my day” argument that has been had millions of times. However, Shawn Michaels was a key figure for wrestling fans who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s so it is a bit shocking to hear him give a quote like that.

Michaels also addressed fans who complain about the WWE on the internet.

“I get what those hardcore fans say and they don’t like it, but at the same time, and I’m going to get a lot of heat for this, but it is true: You do keep watching. The ratings may go down, but we’re not losing you.”

Isn’t that just the brutal truth that all of us wrestling fans hate to hear. If you are reading this right now, I’m guessing you’ve probably said to yourself “I’m never watching this again” hundreds of times. I know I certainly have. There were so many times I wondered why I was watching wrestling when it seemed like Cena was winning every match. Then, I was reminded why I watch it when I saw Edge beat him at SummerSlam 2006 live. It is the same thing now with Roman Reigns. He is not popular amongst the hardcore fans but there is no way they are going to stop watching.
