Former referee and RAW general manager Brad Maddox recently talked about the backstage environment in WWE on the Pancakes and Powerslams Podcast. He says that outbursts from the wrestlers, whether in public or in private, often come due to their frustration with the system within the company.

“It does get very frustrating. Communication gets very muddy, and I think a lot of guys feel a little trapped,” he said about working as an on-air talent in WWE. “Almost like they can’t defend themselves within the constructs of the company.”

Maddox also indicated that former World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton is known to “threaten” other wrestlers backstage. “Randy would get angry at something in a match,” he explained, “and I remember a few instances when I was a referee, so I was in the Gorilla Position a lot of the time.

“A few times he would say things or threaten other guys, like right there in Gorilla, and I would be standing there with my eyes wide open, not believing that he is saying this in front of all the producers and in the same room with Vince. I was kind of amazed by that.”

Maddox was released by WWE in 2015 and currently wrestles on the independent circuit as Mad Braddox.

Holy sh*t... Talk about athleticism!
Dave Meltzer rated this match **** 3/4 stars. I'm still undecided about whether or not this might be a little too generous, yet, at the same time, a part of me can't help but wonder what else they could have possibly done to make this bout any better, especially given that it only lasted approximately 16-17 minutes. I feel that they accomplished quite a great deal for such a short time frame, even if the storytelling was slightly lacking (not that I agree with this notion, as I personally thought there was enough there to keep things engaging).

Feel free to share your thoughts on the matter. :)
There continues to be a ton of buzz surrounding last week’s Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay match from NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors series. Vader and others have been outspoken about the match for being too much of a spot-fest, with overly-choreographed ‘acrobatic’ parts. Others have heralded it as a state-of-the-art Match of the Year contender.

Steve Austin opened this week’s Steve Austin Show: Unleashed podcast with a very positive review. Austin noted that the match could have been a masterpiece if they would have incorporated more selling, but the two men put on an athletic spectacle. He added that if he was running a wrestling promotion, he’d sign both competitors, but questioned if their hellacious in-style is sustainable long-term.

In his latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com, Jim Ross gave the match a strong endorsement, but did acknowledge that there is a point where in-ring action can escape the realm of believability. He wrote, “Wrestling needs to be unpredictable, fundamentally sound, logical so as to not remove anyone watching from their zone of suspended disbelief and at a pace that the majority of the audience can process what they are seeing.”

On Thursday, Chris Jericho shared his two cents on the match, echoing the sentiment that Ricochet vs. Osprey is a modern day Dynamite Kid vs. Tiger Mask.

Glad to see some backlash from Vaders comments from two more formal and respectable fucking people in the same industry. And prior to pokajabbas comment based on storyline and others saying it needed more, i completely fucking disagree with and completely agree with pokajabba.

The match had a storyline like any other real fighting match based in MMA. Both men were great contenders and both men were feuding their own abilities together in order to create the match that people wanted in the first place. Very much like most of the matches based in Wrestling Kingdom PPV's, where people world wide compete in a match with one and other because it's what the people want. No fucking soap opera bull shit or anything based upon those written lines of a feud. If a match can create substance without the narrative of a structured storyline, then that in my opinion is more powerful than a written script

I heard that, but it was regarded as just a rumor and nothing substantial.

During this week’s NXT media conference call, Triple H noted that he wasn’t sure how the upcoming WWE draft would affect the NXT roster. However, Dave Meltzer noted in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT will be raided “big time” and there’s expected to be a mass migration of talent headed to the main roster.

WWE has been aggressively scouting talent from around the world to replenish the NXT roster after the draft. As noted earlier this week, Tommy End is said to be NXT bound, pending the usual round of medical testing. With WWE bringing in a ton of new faces for the Global Cruiserweight Series, you can bet many of the standout competitors getting WWE exposure for the first time will be signed.

Been catching on NJPW on AXS TV. Watched the Kota Ibushi v Hiroshi Tanahashi match. I'm very excited for Kota Ibushi if he will truly be in CWC. He's a fantastic talent

Am I the only one who absolutely abhors the thought of Vince McMahon getting his grubby paws on Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Bayley, Asuka, American Alpha, and Shinsuke Nakamura all in the span of a few weeks? Balor and Bayley are a lock to be in WWE by the end of the Summer, but the rest are the core of NXT. Taking them away guts NXT in such a way, I really don't want to bother watching NXT after they're gone.
