There's 13 Championships in WWE currently. Of those 13, only three champions have managed to keep their title all year (after just 44 days):

- Kevin Owens as the WWE Universal Champion;
- American Alpha as the SmackDown Tag Team Champions (which they themselves only won on December 27th last year);
- Asuka as the NXT Women's Champion.

Every other title has changed hands at least once already this year. Of course, this excludes Tyler Bate, but there was no United Kingdom Champion at the start of 2017.

For the Smackdown roster there doesn't seem like a lot of exciting choices to win it. Ambrose and Styles have won the title already so it's no real big deal if they win the briefcase. It's too early for Baron to win the case. Maybe Miz wins it?

It'll be Corbin. You say it's too early, but by the time June/July comes, he'll be a bigger name and he likely won't cash that briefcase in for months and as we know just carrying the case seems to generate exposure and momentum, which is what Corbin needs. Even if he wins the belt and only holds it for a month, it's someone new that's not Cena, Orton, Styles, etc.

Can we just ditch MITB altogether? The gimmick has long run its course by now...

I disagree. We've been surprised by several of the past MitB winners and it really does seem to consistently be one of the best ppv's WWE does every year. The ladder match is always exciting, we get title matches that we generally wouldn't see at other ppv's because the focus of MitB is the MitB match. Last year we got a great Styles-Cena match, Roman getting pinned CLEAN by Seth Rollins, and Ambrose winning the MitB after being such a jabroni for years prior and going on to cash in on the same night.

That was a pretty damn good ppv.

Yeah, there had been some shit MitB winners the past few years. Sheamus had no purpose winning that briefcase two years ago and neither did Orton or Cena years before that.

Still, I think if done right, WWE can put some decent names into the ladder match and make it exciting if someone you don't expect to wins. Unfortunately, with the brand split back, I have a fear that we're gonna get stuck with Orton and Cena at MitB for the WWE title.

You don't need MitB to have a good ladder match. See: the IC title match from last year's Wrestlemania. Or hell, WWE's other "ladder match" PPV, TLC.

Some cash-ins may still be neat, but on the whole, the gimmick has grown tired, and needs a rest to really be effective anymore. Ambrose was cool, but who was the last MitB winner/cash-in before him to really impress? I guess Seth Rollins was pretty cool, sure, but these two are the exceptions, not the rule. And hell, the only reason Ambrose really came out looking as good as he did was 'cause he got to cash-in on the same night, and didn't have to endure the inevitability of being jobbed to oblivion prior to cashing in, as has become the standard for MitB winners in most recent years.

This is the stubborn era of WWE, and I wouldn't expect anything less from whoever wins this year. Maybe if they changed it up a bit, sorta like how RVD actually challenged for a match in advance when he won it. But again, that's the only time they ever did that, the exception to the rule, and every other time has been the cheap "24/7 rules" sneak attack that makes the WWE title feel closer to the hardcore title, and ultimately cheapens the win and the new champ right off the bat.

Actually John Cena announced a week early that he would be cashing in his contract against CM Punk. :indeed:

But I would agree that the same sneak attack cash in has been played out. I have no problems if they do the match (and thankfully it's just one rather than both shows getting one) but they could at least try something different with the formula to freshen it up.

Yeah, the sneak cash in has been played out, I agree. I like how in Lucha Underground when they have their Gift of the Gods championship, the person who wants to cash in that belt to challenge for the Lucha Underground title, he has to wait until the next week. The other thing about the Gift of the Gods title is it's not stuck to one person permanently. It's treated as it's own title and can be defended in matches and potentially lost.

It wasn't that long ago but she was paraded around on the Howard Stern show to showoff how much her life fell apart.

Sounds as though George "The Animal" Steele has passed away as well.

And now Ivan Koloff has passed away at age 74.

3 in a row like that. :?
