Sounds like better entertainment than watching Brock Lesnar do a bunch of suplexs and an F5 and call that a "wrestling match"

Why WWE King Of The Ring Should Return:

Spoiler: click to toggle
I remember when the Big 4 used to be the Big 5, and the King of the Ring used to be one of the most anticipated PPVs of the year. I also remember how disappointing it was when they removed it from the schedule, and yeah, outside of Booker T's win, every time they've randomly pulled it out ever since has felt like a joke and a waste of time. I'd totally be down with them bringing it back and treating it seriously again, though.

Hell, there's so many PPV's in a year, why NOT make one of them King of the Ring? I think the last one they did, the one Brock Lesnar won, actually did have a stipulation where the winner got a title shot at Summer Slam. Why not bring that back, too? It worked well back then, and people always loved the show.

But then again, part of the appeal was actually seeing the tournament play out of the course of the evening, and today's WWE likely wouldn't be too keen on doing something like that, hence them going the televised rout. Which is a shame, 'cause there's so much wasted potential there. But then again, WWE seems to be in the business of wasted potential these days, so there you go.

Just the title of this video alone makes this feel like an encounter that belongs on like a pre-show or the lower midcard or some shit.

THIS. I started watching just after KotR 2000, so the only ones I was around for as a fan were 2001/2, and I loved 2002's stipulation (it was almost like KotR/SummerSlam's answer to Royal Rumble/WrestleMania). It completely baffled me as to why they got rid of it straight after that.

Former WWE Creative Writer Kevin Eck recently spoke to Sporting News to talk about his time with the company. Since the WWE’s Money In The Bank (MITB) pay-per-view (PPV) was right around the corner, Eck shed some light on some past winners of the MITB Ladder Match.

How Daniel Bryan’s MITB Ladder Match win in 2011 led to his storyline with AJ Lee:

“I started working for WWE at the end of August 2011, six weeks after Bryan won the SmackDown MITB ladder match. Bryan’s victory was surprising at the time because he wasn’t getting much of a push beforehand. He wasn’t getting much of one after winning the blue briefcase, either. In fact, I was informed by some of my colleagues that Vince McMahon was having buyer’s remorse about making Bryan SmackDown’s Mr. Money in the Bank. The question was no longer when Bryan would cash in and win the title, it was whether he should be the first MITB winner to cash in and fail. I didn’t know whether Bryan would ever be world champion, but I figured it could only help his cause if he had a story line, even a minor one.

“I pitched putting Bryan and another nerdy, undersized underdog — AJ Lee — together as a couple. Head writer Brian Gewirtz liked the idea, and we started writing some backstage segments with Bryan and AJ into the show. By the way, when I pulled Bryan and AJ aside at TV and told them they were about to become an on-screen couple, AJ was thrilled to be getting any opportunity, but Bryan was something less than thrilled. He said the last time he was involved in a romantic story line (with Gail Kim and The Bella Twins), it did him more harm than good. Despite his misgivings, however, Bryan was a total pro.”

Dolph Ziggler’s World Heavyweight Title win after cashing in his MITB briefcase:

“When Ziggler won the 2012 MITB ladder match for a guaranteed shot at the World Heavyweight Title, there was no specific plan in place as to when he would cash in and win the title. Ziggler actually attempted to cash in the contract several times only to be thwarted before the cash-in match could become official. It started to become a running joke. Much like Bryan, the longer Ziggler carried around the briefcase, the more likely it seemed that his eventual cash-in was going to be unsuccessful. To say McMahon had lost faith in Ziggler during this time would be a major understatement.

“Even though Ziggler was getting a good reaction from the fans, McMahon was highly critical of Ziggler’s instincts in the ring and his promos. Triple H wasn’t a big Ziggler fan, either. He thought Ziggler didn’t take direction well and was overly obsessed with trying to be the next Shawn Michaels. However, Ziggler did have one important supporter: WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson, who had been a member of McMahon’s inner circle on the creative side for decades and now had emeritus status. Even before Ziggler won the MITB ladder match, Patterson constantly prodded McMahon to give Ziggler a strong push.”

It's been a long time since the last Punjab Prison match, so there are younger fans out there who haven't seen one live or with wrestlers that they've grown up watching. Yeah, the Batista one is on the Network, but it's not quite the same watching a re-run.

I'm fine with it, more fine with it than Jinder still being the WWE Champion.

SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan spoke with Sports Illustrated this week and discussed his relationship with CM Punk, which NXT performers he wants to see called up to the main roster and more. Here are some highlights:

The last time he spoke to CM Punk:

“I haven’t talked to Punk since I texted him when he came on the UFC show in a suit and said he was going to fight in the UFC. I just texted him and said, ‘Hey man, I just saw that and think it’s awesome. I hope you do great.’ Punk texted back, ‘Thanks.’ That’s the last I’ve heard from him. I’ve always respected and appreciated Punk, but we never really hung out. We came from the same route, but we didn’t necessarily hang out in the same circles. I’ve always had a great appreciation and respect for his hard work.”

NXT stars he’d like to see be brought up to the main roster:

“There are so many talented people in NXT, and I hate to single out any specific person because that alienates a whole group of people,” said Bryan. “I think the vignettes they’ve done with Roderick Strong have brought his personality to the forefront. I’ve known Roderick Strong for years, and as much as I would love to have him on SmackDown, I would like to take these ideas and use them for the people we already have who are already super talented.

“American Alpha is a great example of that, and the Colons, who were on the pre-show match on Sunday night. We have so many outstanding talents, and we need to do a better job of helping people relate to them. There always needs to be an infusion of new talent, always. That’s the cycle of wrestling. There also needs to be new talent to be excited about, and an example is Sami Zayn. I really wanted Sami Zayn to go from Raw to SmackDown, and I would like to use him better on SmackDown Live.”

Today, Asuka matched Trish Stratus for the joint 3rd longest Women's Champion reign in WWE history. While 1st place is out of the question, she's only 53 days away from taking 2nd place overall for herself.
