I want KENTA to join the Shield somehow. I think that would be a perfect fit. He doesn't really have to talk or anything, he can just be a badass. Praying he doesn't get slotted into some "stereotypical asian" gimmick. Edited by JML, May 1 2014, 07:39:13 PM.

I'm worried it's gonna be another Sin Cara-type situation where he never really clicks with the crowd. (Though I'm pretty sure KENTA is more reliable and isn't as much of a dick as Mistico) They can't put him against guys like Miz, Swagger, R-Truth, Axel, etc because if they do that he'll never really get over. He'll just be Sin Cara - beating up on jobbers but nobody gives a shit. The problem I have is that the guys I want to see him go up against (Bryan, Cesaro, Shield) are all pretty high up on the card and I don't really see them hotshotting KENTA up to the top of the card to face a guy like Daniel Bryan. I really hope this works out though. KENTA's still only 33 so he has plenty of time to have a good WWE run if they book him well. |

Also, KENTA leaving NOAH isn't as big a decision as it sounds. NOAH is clearly the number three promotion in Japan and with KENTA's numerous knee injuries, I don't think he's able to work much longer the brutally stiff style that's developed in Japan without causing serious damage to his knee. Coming to the US, continuing his striking style, and adapting a Ninja gimmick is best for his career. |

You're right in that between Sin Cara and KENTA, KENTA is much more interested in coming to the US and learning English/working with people than Botchcara and KENTA's worked with ROH for years prior to signing with WWE. Hopefully, WWE will not throw him some stupid gimmick and just let him be KENTA, but this is WWE we're talking about, not TNA who surprisingly makes the Japanese wrestlers out to be legit while WWE paints them as borderline ninja/kamikaze/yakuza types. Hey, whatever happens with Kenta, he'll at least be better than Kenzo Suzuki. |

The only thing that might keep that from happening is that The Great Sasuke was pretty much a ninja his whole career.  IDK, Taka and Tajiri were treated okay when with WWE, but they were always mid card talent. KENTA is main event talent and if WWE wants to build him that way, they're gonna have to debut him like they did Sheamus back in 2009. Problem is, KENTA doesn't look like a frost troll from Skyrim. |

Yes, Kaientai got over because they were Japanese, but prior to that, Taka was busting ass creating the WWE's light heavyweight division from scratch and he did get a burial match with HHH. After Regal's assistant, Tajiri was quite popular with the kicks and the mist, but he was never a main event threat. Neither were main event stars prior to or after their runs in WWE. Same thing for others like Tatsu and Suzuki, they were and still are nobodies, even in Japan. Also, back to your quote, that's why WWE needs to build KENTA as a Sheamus like heel with beating the sh*t out of guys. Have him end 4 guys careers and people will take him seriously. The thing is Tajiri was always an odd-ball, even in ECW. sure when they brought him to the WWF at the time, they paired him Regal, and he was still pretty goofy, then they had him kick the living crap out people....with kicks. If they do bring in KENTA, don't give him a name that reminds people of a green dinosaur or a car. In a perfect world he would be KENTA, but we don't live in a perfect world. |

They never met one on one in ROH. As the story goes, they had a legitimate beef that prevented them from ever being matched up. They did meet in a tag team match at Best in the World and a 3-Way with Danielson at In Your Face. The IYF match is notable because Joe totally fucks KENTA up with a slap, giving him a concussion that modestly derails the match (I've been trying to find a video of it to post since the rumors of KENTA in WWE surfaced, but without success). It still rules, but not quite as much as it could have. Lends itself to the rumors that Joe and KENTA did not like each other. I want to say they've never had a one on one match. I know there was one Joe match in NOAH that he had to get special permission from TNA to work (they had a deal with another promotion) that was highly anticipated, but I can't remember if that was KENTA, or something like a rematch with Morishima, a match with Go Shiozaki, or even a match with Misawa. Whatever it was, I remember reports saying the match was a disappointment. |
