It's originally the Millennium Dome, a building opened on December 31st 1999 to celebrate the beginning of the third millennium with the "Millennium Exhibition", which was only to stay open for the year 2000. It didn't attract anywhere near as many visitors as was predicted, so was a bit of a financial flop. After that it took ages to decide what to do with it, and didn't properly re-open to the public again until 2007 (in fact, the only part of the building which is the same as the Millennium Dome is the outer shell itself). |
