I'm really not sure if I can say WWE had a good year in 2017. It started off pretty good, we had a decent Rumble ppv, the Elimination Chamber was really good, Mania was where it all started to fall apart, which seems to be the new norm for WWE. They over produce their biggest show and it looks impressive, but my God, the length is far too long and the matches by in large are no good. The two best matches were the opener with Shane and AJ and the tag titles match with the Hardy's return. The Triple H match bored the audience as it does every year, Brock and Goldberg was good only because it was short, Taker-Reigns was a bad match... overall the show has not been good for a while and it only gets a pass because it's Mania. Idk, maybe it's due to age, but the more Wrestlemania's I see, the less exciting they become. If Mania's continue to be 7 hour long shitfests, I'm not gonna watch them anymore. Speaking of shitfests... Smackdown. How long did we go all year where this show just languished and felt like a literal chore to watch? We can blame Jinder all we want and he was a big part of it's dreadfulness, but it really all begins with Bray Wyatt I think. He's a gimmick that should have never touched the title, but the build for months before was Orton and the Wyatt family, so they had to complete that and boy did that match at Mania stink the place up. It's not even all Bray's fault because he's given this material that doesn't work and there's nothing he can do to make it better. Working with Matt Hardy now improves things because you have to mental patient gimmicks as the characters in the feud, but everything Bray touched outside of Matt Hardy this year was awful. Bray is my choice for worst gimmick this year, Jinder as worst wrestler and most overrated. Braun has been the breakout star, he's great and over time, I can take him seriously as a world champion. Braun is like Kobe Bryan in a Colorado hotel... he's unstoppable. AJ Styles, he is the brightest part of WWE today and he's like the pope... he can do no wrong. I'm still amazed by Sasha Banks, even though I don't think she's had a title run this year, but the matches I've seen her in have all been good. I wish at times WWE would send Sasha to Smackdown or just find some way to separate her from Bayley, because Bayley has done nothing but bring Sasha down. Bayley.... what a tragedy with this girl. WWE doesn't know how to use her and she sucks. That feud with Alexa Bliss buried Bayley so bad, I haven't seen a burial as bad as hers since Dolph Ziggler. Shit, those two would be a great on screen couple actually. Instead of The Odd Couple, they should be called The Job Couple. For all the newfound respect for women's wrestling in WWE, I'm trying, but I can't think of any standout matches this year with the women. NXT I could point to any Asuka match, but this year the only thing that stands out is the Mania matches and the Survivor Series finish with Asuka winning. I really can't wait for Asuka to take the belt off Alexa. I like Alexa, she's a great heel and good talker, but I've had enough of her as champ. Make Paige the champ and have Paige vs Asuka at Mania. That is a far better match than Asuka vs Alexa will probably be. Alexa can go back to Smackdown after, SD needs more girls. Sheamus and Cesaro were great as a tag team all year, as were the Usos. New Day is okay, but I think they're getting stale. Rusev Day with Rusev and English is starting to stand out, as are Gable and Benjamin. Oh, and finally the angle with Jordan as Kurt's son... time for it to end. Hopefully with Jordan and Rollins as champs it will remove that plot from the show for a little while, but when their run is over, the time to reveal that Jordan lied and made up the story to get favorable treatment on Raw should be done. |

I'd say that should be lower because we really dodged a bullet once Bo Dallas gave everyone mumps. Imagine Bray coming to the ring as Sister Abigail? |

The mumps probably saved his career, or what's left of it. Also saved Balor from potentially the most embarrassing match of the year and who was his replacement? AJ Styles in the MOTN. I can only imagine what Finn must have been thinking after that ppv, actually fuck just the ppv, what Finn must be thinking now given how he was fed to Kane, removed from the Rumble match with Brock, and now finally gets to be back with Gallows and Anderson. I have to believe that Finn went to Vince on Christmas Day and told him either put him with Gallows/Anderson or send him to Smackdown so he can be a part of the AJ and Nakamura title feud at Mania. |
