I'm not gonna give my opinion just yet, but since we're getting closer to Roman and Brock at Mania, how do you think Roman has improved as a wrestler since then and where do you think he still needs to improve? |

His hair is wetter than ever. That's quite the improvement. But he's not a bad wrestler. He's more than capable in the ring and has had good matches. The only downside is that the superman punch is kinda lame and Michael Cole always sells it like it's a gunshot, so that's stupid. I guess you could say he has improved on the mic, but then again he doesn't recite fairytales anymore but is more short and sweet and to the point. What he does say is kind of bland though. "I'm gonna kick your ass", "I'll take on anyone", "This is my yard". None of that is very exciting. I think that's why he gets booed so much is his character has never really changed or grown and a heel turn would freshen him up, plus he would be really good at it too. But instead of that we just get the same thing with him. Overall, he does feel like a star, but that's because it came at the expense of everyone else. Roman is really the only new guy that has been pushed legitimately and made to seem like a big deal, where everyone else has been given start/stop pushes or moved off to the side to do less important things (such as Braun Strowman). |

I feel the same way, except the hair, it's as wet now as it was wetback then. The Superman punch is lame because it's such a low skill, low impact move, but WWE loves the "striker" finishes like Cesaro's uppercut, Sheamus' kick, Shinsuke's knee, Balor's stomp, Rollin's stomp, Rollin's knee, etc. I don't expect that to change so it's not something I can fault too much, I doubt WWE would let him stop doing the move even if he asked. The work he does in the ring is better and he seems more confidant with what he does. It seems every week he has the better matches on Raw. Not sure if that's by design or if he is that much better. Whatever the case, far and away better from where he was 3+ years ago. I'll say his weakest part is the gimmick and his promos. Roman has literally not changed since 2014. Same music, same gear, before they tried the Shield reunion, it's like WWE tried to make you believe that Roman is the Lone Survivor of a special ops team and he's carrying on to see the mission through. I see so much of 2001 X-Pac in Roman Reigns, the only thing that's missing is a shitty stable called The Justice Dogs or something and an Uncle Kracker entrance theme. His promos are also really bad. He spouts one liners, he can't remember what he's supposed to say, but then again the way dialogue is overproduced in WWE today, I can't fault him. He naturally wants to rip the audience and talk down to their favorite wrestlers and build himself up in a way that's different than saying, "This is my yard now" or "I'm the big dog." If WWE would change up his gimmick, change his gear, his entrance music, and give him a short run as a heel, I'd go for it. If they could do the Reign of Terror with Triple H as the top guy on Raw for 3 years burying everyone in sight, there's no reason they can't have Roman do a year as a heel and turn him face. It would do him and WWE a lot of good if they did that. |
