The difference is, IMO, that the Bad Ass gimmick can reflect that lack of physical ability better than the Deadman gimmick can. The Deadman was supposed to be impervious to pain and physical ailments, so when Taker is hobbling in the ring or looks slow... it doens't look good when he's supposed to be something else. The Bad Ass is more humanizing. Even if you're old and slow, given Taker's size and voice, he can still come off as a bad ass. There are some 53 year olds I wouldn't want to mess with, Taker is one of them.
