Baron Corbin was kept off the show because he wrestled in a dark match prior to the show and was heavily cheered, being billed from Kansas City and all. So it was decided not to include him on the show so the crowd wouldn't cheer him when he came out because audience reaction is bad.

I don't see why it matters if heels get cheered in 2018, it's not like it's the 80s and 90s anymore where they're trying to protect kayfabe. Also, Corbin was in the Rumble match for all of a few seconds, so he's clearly not high on WWE's priority list. It's not like there's a ton of babyfaces on Smackdown anyway. There's AJ, Nakamura, Roode (who should be a heel), and Rusev (who's a heel that gets babyface reactions.) Everyone else who's a singles guy on SD is a heel or a jobber. Indeed. His smiling babyface stuff just doesn't do it for me. I think the only reason he isn't a heel is because people were singing along with his theme and you can't have that. |

 SmackDown Preview: February 13, 2018 After Daniel Bryan announced a controversial Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship at WWE Fastlane, SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon decided to shake things up a little bit on the Road to WrestleMania. Tonight on SmackDown LIVE, Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin will square off, and the winner will advance to the WWE Championship Match at WWE Fastlane, joining WWE Champion AJ Styles, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Who will move one step closer to the WWE Championship? Dolph Zigger to face Baron Corbin tonight. Tonight, Dolph Ziggler returns to SmackDown LIVE for the first time in seven weeks. By the end of the night, The Showoff could be walking right into a WWE Championship opportunity. SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon revealed on Twitter Thursday morning that the winner of the battle between Ziggler and Baron Corbin will be added to the WWE Championship Match at WWE Fastlane. That means that AJ Styles will have to defend his title against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and the winner of this showdown. Who will advance to the March 11 special on WWE Network and challenge for the WWE Championship: The Showoff or The Lone Wolf? Find out tonight on SmackDown LIVE at 8/7 C on USA Network! Charlotte Flair continues her quest for payback against The Riott Squad. Last week on SmackDown LIVE, SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defeated The Riott Squad’s Liv Morgan, then made a bold claim: “One down, two to go.” The Queen’s quest for payback continues this week when she faces Sarah Logan. Charlotte had to face 3-on-1 odds against Morgan last week, until Ruby Riott and Logan were thrown out by the official, which gave The Queen the opening to defeat the feisty New Jersey native. Why are we supposed to care Ziggler is back? The guy was a heel who put down the audience as not being "deserving" of him and vacated the US title for that very reason. And now it's meant as a big deal he's returning?

Are they going to at least explain why he vacated the US title? It makes no sense that he'd do that, then just nonchalantly return like a month later, without any care about the fact that he's no longer the champ, right? I mean, what's different about this time around?

I doubt it. At the very least if he does he will likely say something to the effect of he is under-appreciated and deserves better blah blah so now he's going for the WWE Championship. It won't be an explanation that makes much sense and the whole thing will likely be glossed over. |
