God I can't wait to hear/see this for myself. Hopefully it won't be too hard to find tomorrow. 8)
I believe it will go up on Austin's podcast site at some point.

It was pretty easy to find this morning, actually. Entertaining listen. Their "DDT" discussion needs to be taken to heart by the entire industry (though it would've been far more poignant if their example was the superkick...), & Heyman made good points concerning promos, though that doesn't take into account that guys are memorizing scripted promos these days, so perhaps that can be seen as a challenge to veer off script, or perhaps for the writers to give them better material to work with.

Not at all impressed by the tease of Austin/Lesnar, however.

Otherwise, I'll agree with TTB that this was pretty tame. Entertaining, but still tame.

I thouhght it was more fun to watch than Raw. Heyman's rent a car story with the Steiners and Samoan Swat Team, hilarious.

They steered around talking about WWE creative decisions... I'm sure they were told to do so, especially given Austin's recent comments

Definitely was the case, you could tell at several points that this one had a lot of pre-planning heading into it, and as such there was little room for any kind of "Chyna" or "Cesaro" type situations to be suddenly dropped out there. Definitely played it safe this time.

If there's one thing I've come to know throughout my years of watching the product (based on many wrestling stories from people who've worked in the industry), it's that Vince McMahon wants superstars to take initiative of any given situation. Which includes having the courage to ad-lib, asking for re-writes from the creative team, and possibly starting the entire scripting process from scratch (coming up with something completely different). But for whatever reason, the talent backstage seem obligated to carry out anything that's thrown at their feet, no matter how awful it is. Paul Heyman and Chris Jericho have discussed this issue a few times during interviews before, and no one in the current roster seem to have taken their advice to heart. I'm guessing this is usually due to fear of regression, losing ones job, or purely out of laziness. But I honestly cannot think of anyone who's been fired because they delivered a fantastic promo that went slightly off script. So I'm not entirely sure where this apprehension has come from. My only guess is that a lot of these men/woman have heard too many horror stories regarding Vince McMahon and company.

In fact, some of the biggest loud mouths in the business have, in some way, gone on to attain some form of success in the industry. Paul Heyman himself was competing against WWE before and during his stay with the company (he was in direct competition with Raw during his tenure as head writer of Smackdown), and in the past has gone on to have full blown arguments with Vince McMahon. And yet, Heyman is still just as relevant as he was all those years ago. It wasn't as though Paul Heyman was trying to change a mere promo, neither. He was quite literally telling Vince McMahon how to run the business, which was obviously a recipe for disaster.

So considering he's still okay (despite having full scale battles with the head of the company), it's highly likely Vince is more than happy to allow superstars to ab-lib the odd promo here or there, and possibly even make simple script changes if someone proposed a decent enough idea to run with. Then again, there is also the likelihood I have no idea what I'm talking about, and that Vince McMahon isn't the same person he used to be. Though, I'd like to believe this isn't the case. I'm sure Triple H is at least willing to hear someone out, even if he doesn't have final say on the matter.

All I'm saying is there's only so much blame that can be directed towards the writers. At the end of the day, a lot of the greatest wrestlers of all time put together their own promos without the need of a script, just as long as they understood what the main goal was supposed to be. I can understand giving the current talent a tiny bit of direction; but they ought to at least be given the freedom to create their own magic out of those basic fundamental guidlines. But again, I don't personally believe these superstars are quite as restricted as rumors suggest they are. It's probably more a lack of communication from the higher ups and employees that have caused this dilemma to prop up over recent years. Which given enough time, can easily be sorted out. That said, perhaps this is all just a test, so that Vince is able to find out which superstars have the courage to actually speak out.

Who knows?

But from the stories I've heard, when it comes to creative input, the company isn't quite as restrictive as some people make it out to be. Perhaps just a boost of confidence is the only thing that's needed to help maintain strong moral -- which hopefully then leads to more flamboyant and interesting promos being made. You'd think most of these people joined the company because they wanted to make a name for themselves, and if that were truly the case then they would at least try to put some effort into making a difference to how everything works backstage. I mean, if you're a chef who truly cares about the kind of food you're serving in a restaurant, yet most of the kitchen utensils you're working with happen to be completely broken -- do you continue to work with ''said'' tools, or do you try your hardest, in a very professional manner (without causing trouble), to suggest ways to make a difference that benefits everyone involved. CM Punk certainly wouldn't stand for anything less, so I'm surprised there aren't more superstars right now pushing for better quality. And I truly do not believe they stand to lose anything for trying. Some of the writing they've been given to work with isn't always horrible. There have been times (albeit, only a few) where I've thought to myself that a truly talented individual like CM Punk could've turned a basic storyline into solid entertainment.

I often wonder if the writing team are the ones who take the blame for what might be someone else's mistakes. Like I said, there's a strong possibility that I'm completely off-kilter here. But at least it's worth discussing (IMO).
