Chris Roberson once roamed centerfield for the Philadelphia Phillies. Wednesday night, he played like a guy who should still be there. Roberson hit two home runs, went three-for-four, scored two and drove in four and also made an outstanding catch on a fly ball in the eighth that saved a run, as he led the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Sioux City Explorers. With the win, the Fish swept the Explorers right out of Shaw Park, taking all three games of the three-game series. With their third straight win, the Goldeyes also improved to 24-15 and remained in first place in the American Associations North Division. "I had some fun tonight," said Roberson after the game. "I went to the plate with energy tonight. Ive been working real hard with my timing. Im trying to make the right move and go with the pitches instead of being too aggressive on the inside pitch. Im seeing the ball a lot better." This Goldeyes opened the scoring in the first when Roberson hit the fourth pitch of the ball game over the Liquor Marts sign in right field. Later, Luis Alen walked and scored on a double by Gabby Martinez. The start was exactly what lefty Tony Butler needed. Butler, who just joined the Goldeyes this week, had an outstanding first start, going 5.1 innings allowing only one run on three hits while the Goldeyes bats boomed. In the second inning, the Fish extended their lead to 5-0 as Kyle Day led off with a solo homer then David Narodowski singled, Dan Barbero singled and after both runners moved up 90 feet on an error, Roberson drove them home with a single. Sioux City scored its first run in the fifth, but Winnipeg answered in the bottom half of the inning when Jon Weber hit a solo homer. After the Explorers made it 6-2 in the top of the seventh, Winnipeg made it 7-2 on Robersons second homer of the game, a solo blast that put the game out of reach. "Im really proud of the guys right now, considering everything weve gone through with the injuries, the roster changes, 30-games-in-30-days all that," said manager Rick Forney on the TSN 1290 post-game show with Paul Edmonds. "Its nice to sweep what I think is a really good team." Butler got the win (2-2, 4.03 ERA) while Andrew Snowden (0-2, 7.54 ERA) took the loss. There was no save, but the Goldeyes four relief pitchers, Kaohi Downing, Zach Baldwin, Craig James and Billy Spottiswood were solid. As soon as Wednesday nights game finished, the Goldeyes got on the bus and headed out to Wichita, Kansas. Friday night, the Goldeyes will meet the Wichita Wingnuts as Ace Walker (3-2, 3.44 ERA) will get the start. Game time is 7pm ct and it can be heard live on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds calling the play-by-play. cheap nfl jerseys . These days, the Capitals are succeeding in the playoffs with a more conservative, defensive-minded style -- and it still never hurts when the best of the best put the puck in the net. Defenceman Greens slap shot on a power play with 5:48 left in regulation was the go-ahead goal, and Ovechkin and Backstrom scored Saturday, too, lifting the Capitals to a 3-2 victory over the top-seeded New York Rangers that tied their Eastern Conference semifinal series at two games apiece.Several NHL players are disappointed in the way the National Hockey League presented the latest definition of hockey related revenue (HRR) during talks this week. "Basically, they changed the definition, where there would be no accountability in terms of HRR accounting," Senators team representative Chris Phillips told The Ottawa Sun on Friday. "So they could basically give us whatever number they wanted to. "Its great that were at 50-50 now, but 50-50 of what? Thats just ridiculous. Were trying to get a deal done, and negotiate in good faith and they pull garbage like that. Thats not going to get anything done." Montreal Canadiens NHLPA representative Josh Gorges was equally critical. "I dont know if its a step back," he said. "It kind of shows us and everybody the mentality that they have in these negotiations and the mentality that theyve had in this whole process. Trying to sllide something in there on us like that, its a pretty sneaky move.dddddddddddd "It doesnt do anything to benefit the process. Its hard to negotiate when someone is trying to do something like that." Gorgess teammate Brian Gionta, also voiced his displeasure. "Its kind of unfortunate (when) you have to resort to that kind of negotiating," said Gionta on Friday. The deadline for players to vote on their latest disclaimer of interest option is Saturday at 6pm et. A vote in favour would give the NHLPA executive board the power to file, essentially dissolving the union and allowing players to file anti-trust lawsuits against the owners. "As far as I know, negotiations were going well, and then they turned around and pulled a couple of dirty tricks that upset a lot of us," said Phillips. "So now were back to where we were, in terms of having votes (for a disclaimer of interest)." ' ' '
