DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Lotta Wahlin made seven birdies for a 6-under 66 Wednesday to take a one-shot lead over Becky Brewerton after the first round of the Dubai Ladies Masters. The 28-year-old Wahlin, whose career was disrupted in 2009 when she was diagnosed with skin cancer, sank a 26-foot birdie putt on the 18th to seize the sole lead. The Swede is two shots clear of a four-way tie for second and four shots ahead of Lexi Thompson (70), the 16-year-old American who is the youngster winner ever on the LPGA Tour. Michelle Wie, looking for her first win of the year, was seven shots back after shooting a 73. "I finally had a good round, finally was able to make all the putts," Wahlin said. "I didnt really make any mistakes and I was just playing very solid and made all my putts pretty much." Wahlin was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2009 while in Dubai and only played a few events on the European Ladies Tour last year and several on the Swedish tour. The two-time European Ladies Tour winner has fully recovered from the cancer but still wears sun screen, sometimes dons protective clothing that covers her arms and has avoided tournaments in sunnier locales such as Australia and Portugal. While Dubai normally can reach 50 C in the summer, temperatures in December are much cooler. "I just have to be careful. I mean I have that kind of skin which is quite sensitive to the sun," Wahlin said. "I thought is it really worth it to be out on the golf course in the sunny countries or is it better that I just quit playing golf and do something else. But I still have to live my life and golf is my life, or a big part of my life." Wahlin has struggled since returning to the tour full time this year, failing to earn a top 10 finish this season. She finished 52nd at last weeks Indian Open but said her cancer has given her a fresh perspective on the sport. "Golf is not so important anymore," Wahlin said. "If I have a bad round, Im still disappointed. But its not the end of the world like it used to be. So that is a good thing." Brewerton carded six birdies and a bogey. It was a marked improvement from the Indian Open, where the Welsh golfer finished 74th. "It was just completely different. Its really hard to say sometimes what makes it change. For some reason, I played well," Brewerton said. "I think it was just a different attitude. Last week, I over prepared, practised too much, got a bit tired and got sick at end of week." Thompson recovered from a slow start to make three birdies on her final three holes. The American teenager came into the tournament as one of the favourites, having won the Navistar LPGA Classic in September. "I struggled with my putter until the 16th hole," Thompson said. "Then I figured some things out so it went well for the last three. I hit it well, just putts didnt drop. Ill just work on my putting and go out strong tomorrow." Wie, who was hampered last year with a back injury and this year with a drop in form that saw her fall to 17th in the world rankings, had trouble with the greens. She missed several birdie chances, including on the ninth -- her final hole of the day. "Frustrating," Wie said. "It was one of those days where nothing went in and nothing went my way. It was pretty frustrating that I was 1-over par. I have tomorrow and my game is feeling pretty good so I just have to go out there and score." cheap jerseys from china . Josh Freeman threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Clark in overtime to cap the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-21 comeback win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. It was Freemans third touchdown pass of the game for the Buccaneers (6-4), who have now won five of their last six games. Carolina appeared to have the game in hand after a 29-yard touchdown pass from Cam Newton to Brandon LaFell put the Panthers (2-8) up 21-10 with six minutes left in the game. But after a 40-yard field goal by Connor Barth, the Panthers offence couldnt put the game away and had to punt. Freeman led the Bucs 80 yards on seven plays in 50 seconds, despite not having any timeouts. He finished the drive with a perfectly thrown 24-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Jackson between three defenders with 12 seconds left. Freeman went back to Jackson for a 2-point conversion on a slant route to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime, the Bucs moved quickly down the field and Freeman found an open Clark along the left sideline for the game-winner. Newton finished with 252 yards passing and a touchdown and Jonathan Stewart ran for 43 yards and a score for the Panthers, who failed to avenge a 16-10 loss to the Bucs in the season opener. Of Carolinas last six losses, theyve led in the fourth quarter in five of them. The Bucs came in as one of the hottest teams in the league having scored an average of 35.6 points per game during the past five games. But after scoring a quick 10 points, the Panthers defence shut them down for most of the remainder of the three quarters forcing three turnovers, including a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown by Captain Munnerlyn and a key fumble by rookie Doug Martin on a fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Trailing 14-10, the Bucs appeared ready to take the lead after driving 15 plays to the Carolina 1. But on fourth down, Bucs coach Greg Schiano went for the touchdown instead of the field goal and linebacker Thomas Davis plowed into Martin, forcing the ball out near thee goal line.dddddddddddd Fellow linebacker Luke Kuechly, the teams first-round draft pick, recovered in the end zone for a touchback. Officials reviewed the play to see if Martin got in, but the call stood. The Panthers immediately cashed in on the change of momentum as Newton led the Panthers 80 yards on seven plays, converting two key third downs along the way. He capped the drive with a 29-yard scoring strike to a wide-open LaFell on a crossing route to make it a two-possession game at 21-10. The Bucs would cut the lead to 21-13 Barths field goal with 4:03 left in the game. Tampa Bay would get one last shot and Freeman made the most of it. The Bucs got a big 15-yard penalty when officials ruled Davis hit a defenceless receiver in the head. But the big play was Carolinas inability to defend Jackson on the TD pass down the middle. Things didnt start well for the Panthers on Sunday. Less than a week after firing special teams co-ordinator Brian Murphy, Munnerlyn, who doubles as the teams punt returner, was hit by Jacob Cutrera and fumbled at the Panthers 29. Dekoda Watson recovered for the Bucs and six plays later, Freeman, found tight end Nate Byham in the back of the end zone for a touchdown and early 7-0 lead early midway through the first quarter. The Bucs added to that lead later in the first quarter on Barths 51-yard field goal. And when Carolinas two leading sack artists, Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy, collided in the backfield and remained on the ground for more than minute while being attended to by trainers, it seemed this game might be ready to spiral out of control. The game changed suddenly and unexpectedly a few plays later. With two rookie defensive ends in the game, the Panthers got pressure on Freeman up the middle and he threw a weak ball toward the flat. Thats where Munnerlyn made up for his earlier mistake by returning the ball 74 yards for a touchdown. The Panthers came up with a defensive stop on their next possession and Newton drove Carolina 77 yards on eight plays with Jonathan Stewart scoring on a 1-yard touchdown plunge to give the Panthers a 14-10 lead.
