MIAMI -- Tim Lincecum extended his second-half pitching surge with another road gem. Lincecum allowed two hits in seven innings and Jeff Keppinger provided a first-inning solo home run to lead the San Francisco Giants past the Florida Marlins, 3-0 on Saturday night. Lincecum (11-9) walked three, struck out 10 and hit a batter while lowering his league-leading road earned-run average to 2.08. He has given up one run or less in six of his last seven starts overall and his ERA since the all-star break is 1.11. "These are the dog days and hes in better shape," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Its not easy to go out there in this heat and throw the ball the way he did but because hes gotten himself in better shape. Hes having a great August, probably his best August. "Last year, he probably learned from his struggles in August." Lincecum, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, went 0-5 with a 7.82 ERA last August. "Putting on that weight worked to my benefit," the five-foot-11, 165-pound Lincecum said. "Its not all good weight, but it lets me retain the water a little bit better, hydrate, and I can last a little bit, have a little bit more stamina heading into the late innings." Jeremy Affeldt pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Brian Wilson a scoreless ninth for his 35th save in 39 tries. Javier Vazquez (7-10) surrendered three runs and five hits in seven innings. He struck out 10 and threw two wild pitches. It was his eighth quality start in his last 11 outings. Keppingers first-inning shot extended San Franciscos major league record of consecutive solo home runs to 21. "Were going to set a record that can never be broken," Bochy said with a smile. "Were on the relentless pursuit of solo home runs right now. But you know what? Ill take them." The Giants entered having lost 11 of 14. The Marlins snapped a seven-game losing streak on Friday night. Aubrey Huffs two-out double to left in the sixth scored Cody Ross from second to give San Francisco a 3-0 lead. Ross led off with a single and advanced on Vazquezs wild pitch. With two outs, Huff lofted a fly down the line, where Logan Morrison failed to catch the ball as he ran into foul territory. The Giants took a 2-0 lead in the fifth when Nate Schierholtz scored on Vazquezs wild pitch. Schierholtz opened with a double to left and took third on Morrisons throwing error. After Orlando Cabrera fouled out, Schierholtz came home on the wild pitch with Aaron Rowand batting. Keppinger hit Vazquezs first pitch down the left-field line for a home run with one out in the first. Notes: After the game, the Marlins announced they had optioned LF Morrison to triple-A New Orleans (Pacific Coast League) and released veteran IF Wes Helms. ... The Giants placed OF Andres Torres (lower right leg contusion) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled 1B Brandon Belt from triple-A Fresno. ... Giants OF Carlos Beltran (strained right hand) missed his fifth straight game. "Well check on him (Sunday). We are getting to the point where were going to have to make a decision (on whether he goes on the disabled list)," Bochy said. ... Ryan Vogelsong (9-2, 2.48 ERA) will oppose Chris Volstad (5-8, 5.58) in Sundays series finale. Florida recalled Volstad from Triple-A New Orleans on Friday. The Giants will try to snap a four-series losing streak. ... The 24-year-old Texan pitched five shutout innings to lead Toronto to a 7-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night, Drabeks first home win since April 2, 2011 against Minnesota. And Drabek said being able to remain calm in times of trouble and thinking his way through jams -- something he worked on in spring training -- were paramount to his success. "It kind of brings me back to spring training a little bit, getting into situations like that and calming yourself down and just trying to execute each pitch," Drabek said. "I had early command of my fastball, I thought I had a lot of first-pitch strikes. "It seemed to fade a little bit but I was able to adjust some. Thats one of the main things I want to do, get the first-pitch strike, get ahead early and try not to let them back in." Drabek (1-0) got into a jam in the second inning, surrendering a one-out double to Kevin Youkilis and a walk to Ryan Sweeney before falling behind 3-0 to Cody Ross. Drabek not only came back to strike Ross out but ended the threat by fanning Jarrod Saltalamacchia. "Kyle set the tone right from the start," Toronto manager John Farrell said. "He pitched out of a little bit of traffic in the second inning but didnt rely on trying to get more velocity, he continued to pitch. "He kept things together and stayed ahead of the count most of the time the five-plus innings he was out there. It was good to see him continue the progression and the path he established in spring training." Boston manager Bobby Valentine also heaped lavish praise upon Drabek. "Drabek had a good inside fastball to our left-handers," he said. "It seemed to paralyze them all night." Drabek got into trouble in the sixth, giving up a leadoff walk to Jacoby Ellsbury and a double to Dustin Pedroia. Adrian Gonzalezs sacrifice fly scored Ellsbury to cut Torontos lead to 3-1 but Drabeks night was done after walking David Ortiz. He left after 5 1-3 innings, giving up three hits, one earned run and three walks while fanning four in favour of Jason Frasor, who got Youkilis to hit into an inning-ending double play. Farrell said Drabek wasnt keen on leaving the game when he did but added it was an easy move to make considering Youkilis was a dismal 1-for-15 against Frasor, who induced the double-play ball with a silder down and away. "Its cat and mouse with that guy, he knows me probably as well as I know myself," Frasor said. "We know it (a pitchers success rate against some hitters) but we dont talk about it. "The baseball gods hear that, they do. Its bad karma, it really is." Torontos bats came through for Drabek in the bottom of the sixth when catcher J.P. Arencibias bases-loaded single highlighted a three-run outburst that put the home team ahead 6-1. Arencibias blast off reliever Justin Thomas helped the Blue Jays even their three-game series with Boston, delighting the Rogers Centre crowd of 26,251. On Monday night, an enthusiastic sellout of 48,473 watched Boston rally for a 4-2 victory to spoil Toorontos home opener.dddddddddddd Designated-hitter Edwin Encarnacion homered for Toronto (3-2) but slugger Jose Bautista went hitless in four at-bats, striking out three times. "Right now he is struggling to find his timing," Farrell said of Bautista, who also went 0-for-4 on Monday. "Weve all become accustomed to see Jose just generally hit balls in seats but there were times last year and Im sure the year before where he goes through some stretches where his timing is off a little bit and thats kind of where he is now." However, Farrell said Toronto has more than enough offensive firepower to pick up the slack until Bautista, who led the majors last year with 43 homers, regains his stroke. "We have that potential, for sure," he said. "Were starting to get a couple of more guys involved in the overall offence. "Were not anywhere close to where well be but were showing signs of getting there." Bostons Daniel Bard (0-1) made his first major league start after 192 career appearances from the bullpen. He left with runners at first and third with none out in the sixth after Encarnacion walked, stole second and went to third on Canadian Brett Lawries infield single. Right-hander Thomas came on but walked Eric Thames to load the bases then gave up Arencibias single and Colby Rasmuss run-scoring sacrifice fly that gave Toronto its five-run lead. Bard surrendered five earned runs, eight hits and a walk while fanning six for Boston (1-4). "He pitched good enough to win if we had scored some runs," Valentine said of Bard. Encarnacion gave Toronto a 7-1 lead with a solo homer, his first of the season, off right-hander Michael Bowden in the seventh. Reliever Casey Janssen quickly got two strikeouts to open the ninth for Toronto but the Red Sox loaded the bases before Gonzalezs two-run single cut Bostons deficit to 7-3. But Janssen struck out Ortiz to end the game. Toronto opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Encarnacions infield single brought home Yunel Escobar, who had a leadoff single and went to third on Adam Linds two-out double. Encarnacion stole second to put two runners in scoring position but Bard fanned Lawrie to end the threat. Toronto went ahead 3-0 in the third on RBI singles by Lind and Lawrie. Linds hit scored Escobar, who had a leadoff single and went to second on Kelly Johnsons infield hit. Lawries two-out single brought Johnson home but Bard got Thames out to end the inning.
