Personality

Albeit his intimidating size, his imposing personality and furrowed brows are also great for keeping people at a distance. Burrowed beneath his harsh gaze is a certain sophistry and elegance in his mannerisms. He is polite when spoken to. He is sincere when appropriate. With his big hands neatly folded behind his back, Gage quietly listens to others with genuine care.

That image is completely shattered when in combat. Like an attack dog off its leash, his element of size quickly comes into action. He is aggressive. He is ruthless. He is dangerously cunning. He relies on forcing the enemy onto the defensive before overpowering them.

History

Daniel Gage was a happy man. He was a bright officer within the Earth Federation Army with a promising career and a beautiful fiancé. He came to Earth and joined the ROTC at the ripe age of seventeen to advance his education and escape the poverty that claimed his mother and father. He studied metallurgy and aspired to become a surveyor to keep his charter on Earth. He was a star boxer who turned down numerous offers to become a professional. Everything was fine. Everything was supposed to work out.

Instead, it didn’t. When the war came, his fragile reality cracked like fine glassware. The Earth Federation began calling its younger officers into action shortly after Operation British- Gage was no exception. After giving his fiancé a tearful farewell, he left for his defensive station in Poland. It was supposed to be a simple, backwater outpost that the invaders would never touch, but they did. It was supposed to be a trivial loss for an invading army that was clearly outnumbered by the stationed forces, but they won.

His tank platoon was decimated. He was captured. He would spend eight months at the infamous POW camp near Odessa. Captors there were frequently beaten, tortured, interrogated, and thrown into the mines for forced labor. Time moved slowly there. Each day was an eternity. When the Earth Federation liberated the camp in November, Daniel had already spent a lifetime in its confines.

For him, the war was already over. He left one prison and entered another- a windowless sterilized hospital room with no visitors. It took him two years to recover. The world didn’t wait for Daniel Gage. No, his fiancé decided to run off with another man she met during the liberation of North America. His loss was met with a strange indifference. He was a different man when he came out of the hospital- born anew. With no home to return to, he spent his new lease on life training to become a mobile suit pilot, and was deployed for active duty just in time for Operation Stardust

Gage was mobilized with the reinforcement fleet for the Solar System II under the tenure of Bask Om. He participated in a turkey shoot against a desperate Zeon vanguard attempting to destroy the superweapon. Daniel was granted his long awaited reckoning in the slaughter and earned a reputation as a vicious attack dog.

There was no other possible outcome for him when the Titans were created. He would join them without a particular cause and with a particular subjugating the Zeon Remnants. A bad reputation came with him everywhere he went. Although his peers minded his reputation, his superiors certainly didn’t. At the end of his file are black lines over the words detailing his most recent activities. Clearly someone higher up didn’t want anyone else to know.
